Back to School
The kids were flicking scrambled eggs at ‘Miaow-less Tongue-chin’
(the ill, thin, flea ridden stray
that I can hardly look at)
when I read your poem
and I don't know if I can
bear watching you die
on Instagram
I don't know if I can love that
But maybe what I'm seeing is that
You are Coming to Life
and that is
what is
breaking my heart
I also didn't think that I could bear
this Spanish summer
but I got through it.
I was cooked alive
to a relentless techno-ciacada beat
and now I'm splitting open like the
September pomegranates
And so it is
that the back to school vibe
even manages to find its way
into my very muddled life
bringing me my main lesson:
‘enjoy today, to the full
enjoy it as if it was your last’
